The idols of the Bharwad-Ahir community: Aai Machhu Ma and Puniya Mama
In this video, witness two divine forms of the Ahir and Bharwad culture of Morbi, Gujarat – Ai Machhu Maa and Puniya Mama. Aai Machhu Maa is adorned in the attire of a Gujarati shepherd’s daughter with a black, red, green and yellow embroidered kamli and a red tripunda. While Puniya Mama is a tall, burly Ahir youth, wearing a curly dark moustache, a red Ahir turban, a kedia, an embroidered red bandi and a chorni, and standing with a stick in his arm. His face is adorned with divine radiance. This video presents a unique blend of Morbi’s rural heritage, devotion and divinity.
